WINCHENDON, Adella M. Wierstak, 92, died Saturday, May 28, 2022 after a short illness. Her best friend Debbie Howson was by her side, as well as friends Dianne and Gene Piurkowski, and caring staff of Gardner Nursing Home.
Adella was born in Winchendon on March 16, 1930, a daughter of the late Joseph and Honorata (Cieslak) Dabuliewicz. She was a 1948 graduate of Murdock High School and went on to Becker College in Worcester, majoring in accounting. In 1951, she married Edward Desmarais. The young couple was known locally for raising German shepherd pups. Adella also worked at the Winchendon Hospital and in a dress shop as an accountant.
A few years after Edward’s death, Adella married Charles Wierstak and lived in Worcester until his death in 1993, when she returned to the family homestead in Winchendon.
In her later years, Adella loved feeding birds and wildlife, and caring for the many stray cats that she rescued. She volunteered at the Winchendon cat shelter, enjoyed socializing at the Senior Center, and discussing current events with her “crew” at Dunkin’ Donuts. She spent countless sunny days chatting with her best friend and loyal advocate, Debbie Howson.
Adella is predeceased by three brothers, Stanley, Joseph and Walter; and two sisters, Mary, and Helen (Lepkowski).
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in St. John’s Cemetery, West Street, Gardner.
