Alice N. (Roundy) Parker

BALDWINVILLE - Alice N. (Roundy) Parker, 86, of 99 Bridge Street, Baldwinville, formerly of Norcross Hill, Baldwinville, died peacefully February 12th at the home of her son, Philip and daughter-in- law, Michelle. She was born in Salem, New York on February 12,1923, the daughter of the late Roy B. and Elizabeth (Hanson) Roundy. Alice had lived for 54 years on her beloved Norcross Hill farm in Baldwinville until moving down to the village last year. She would return daily to the hill for walks and to just enjoy the peace and tranquility. Alice was a graduate of Gardner High School and the psychiatric nursing program at the former Gardner State Hospital where she worked following her graduation. She more recently worked for 25 years at the Templeton Developmental Center as a matron until her retirement in 1985. She was a long-time member of the Memorial Congregational Church. Alice was noted for her fine soprano voice and sang at many weddings, funerals and various church gatherings throughout the area for many years. She directed the choir at Chestnut St. Methodist Church in Gardner during the 1950's before settling at Memorial Congregational Church, Baldwinville in 1960 where she sang in the choir until this past Christmas Sunday. She also volunteered her time as Director of the Walter E. Fernald School Choir. She sang in the Leonard Gaskins Chorale in Fitchburg. She was also a member of the Ames-More Guild at the church and was a faithful helper and contributor to many dinners and other church functions. Her hobbies and interests included cooking, canning, knitting, gardening, and walking, She and her husband Stanley traveled to many points in the states and abroad, but her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family and grandchildren. Her husband of 57 years, Stanley F. Parker, died in 2000. She leaves three children, Paul E. Parker and his wife Eng Parker of McAllen, TX, Margaret L. Greenman of Ellicott City, MD, and Philip R. Parker and his wife Michelle of Baldwinville. one brother, Roy Elmer Roundy of Reno, NV; seven grandchildren, Kyle Greenman, Grant Greenman, Leigh Parker, Joyce Parker, Garrison Parker, Chandler Parker and Bryce Parker as well as several nephews and nieces. A sister, Ruth R. White, predeceased her in 2005. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 21st at 10 A.M. in the Memorial Congregational Church, 4 Memorial Street, Baldwinville. The Rev. Robert Johansen will officiate. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery, Sutton, MA. Calling hours in the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon will be Friday, February 20th from 6 to 8 P.M.
