WINCHENDON - Alte Pelto, 90, of 60 Oak Street, Winchendon, formerly of Fitzwilliam, NH, died Thursday, December 11th in the Leo P. LaChance Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Gardner. He was born in Fitzwilliam, N.H. on March 14,1918, the son of the late Isaac and Hilda (Jaukoutytan) Pelto and lived in Fitzwilliam for most of his life. He had lived in Winchendon for the last five years. Alte was a woodworker at Winchendon Furniture for over twenty years until his retirement. He was a World War Two Army veteran, proudly serving from 1941 to 1945. He served in the 3053rd Engineer Combat Batallion and saw duty in North Africa, Sicily, Normandy and Northern France in the Rhineland Campaign and Central Germany Campaign. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, dog and horse racing. He leaves his wife of 67 years, Rita M. (Langille) Pelto; a son, James A. Pelto of Gardner; a daughter, Carolyn A. Nurmsen of Winchendon; four grandchildren, Andrea Suchocki, Felicia Nurmsen, Rebecca Thurlow and Jennifer Ervman; six grandchildren, Kevin Suchocki, Emma Silvia, Natalie Thurlow, Nathan Thurlow, Brian Ervman and Felisha Ervman, and many nephews and nieces. Alte was predeceased by all of his brothers and sisters, Elizabeth Oja, Hiriam Pelto, Arne Pelto, Aarvo Pelto, Alan Pelto, Arro Pelto and Helmi Pelto. Private graveside services will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery, Fitzwilliam in the spring. There are no calling hours.
