WINCHENDON – Anita R. (Martin) Dack, 91, of 165 Gardner Road, Winchendon, died peacefully Friday, March 4 th in Quabbin Valley Healthcare Center, Athol, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Winchendon on February 16, 1920, daughter of the late Fred J. and Anastasia (Menard) Martin of Winchendon, and was a lifelong resident of Winchendon.

Anita was a graduate of Murdock High School, Class of 1938, and Henry Heywood Hospital School of Nursing in 1941, Post Graduate in Surgical Nursing at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. She completed various courses and studies at Boston State Hospital, Boston Floating Hospital and Charles D. Chapin Hospital in Rhode Island.

She was a registered nurse and worked at Heywood Hospital in Gardner for 28 years as head nurse and supervisor of pediatrics and the Intensive Care Unit. For 13 ½ years she worked for Mass Mental Health at Gardner State Hospital and CTP Fitchburg as Head Nurse/Supervisor.

Her husband, Frank A. Dack, died in 1979. She leaves two sons, Francis A. Dack and his wife Diane of Winchendon and Douglas A. Dack and his wife Ellen of Hubbardston, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a sister Julia O. Guenette of Gardner, as well as many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Quabbin Valley Healthcare Center Dana Unit Activity Fund, 821 Daniel Shays Highway, Athol, MA. 01331.
