Arline V. Wise

TEMPLETON - Arline V. (Guilmette) Wise, 99, formerly of 160 Athol Road, Phillipston, died Sunday, January 13th in the Baldwinville Nursing Home. Born on August 1,1908 in Athol, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Guilmette and Cora (Ricard) Guilmette Shearer. Arline's late husband, Kenneth Wise, also for Athol, died in 1988 after being married for 55 years, all of that being lived in Phillipston,where they raised five children: the late Peter Wise and his wife Carmen of Henderson, Nevada, Captain Stephen Wise and his wife Judy of Kent, WA, the late David Wise of Grass Valley, CA., Martha Wise Craft Chattin, the widow of Peter Craft and Richard Chattin of Phillipston and Karen Wise Bushee and her husband Louis Bushee of Phoenix, AZ. Arline attended Athol High School, worked at Starrett Tool Co., raised farm animals and vegetables, worked as a cook at the Old Mill and at The Oasis Restaurant. She owned two businesses, one selling woodland plants and partridge berry bowls to florist shops. She loved the woodlands of our neighboring states in her search for rare plants. She brought home all that was edible. She also sold mail-order antiques and collectibles from her home. She was active in politics and educated her children and grandchildren on the issues. She corresponded often with her legislators and treasured their return letters. Mrs. Wise had 17 grandchildren. Peter's children are Kris Wise and his wife Paula of Phillipston, Karen Wise Pooley of Littleton, Colorado, April Wise Nielson of Salt Lake City, UT; Randall S. Wise of Coerd'alene, ID, James Wise of Logan, UT. and Daniel Wise, CA. Peter also raised Mikel Conrad, Carmen's son of Henderson, Nevada. Stephen's children are Steve Wise of LaCrosse, Wis and Tracy Wise Zhang of Lexington, KY. David's children are David Wise of Ontario, CA, Randy Wise of Downy, CA and Michelle Law of Smartsville, CA. Martha's children are Justin Craft of Phillipston, James Craft of Sutton, MA., Dr. Noah Craft of Venice, CA and Philip Craft of Astoria, NY. Karen's children are Paul Bushee of Port Jervis, NY and Gwen (Bushee) Bade of Southington, Conn. Leo O'Keefe, of Phillipston, was a close nephew and part of the family growing up. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 21st at Noon in the Phillipston Congregational Church, Phillipston Common. Burial will follow in Lower Cemetery, Phillipston.
