ASHBURNHAM – Barbara A. (Whitney) Griffin, 84, of Ashburnham, died peacefully Friday morning, May 12, 2023 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, with her family at her side.
She was born in Boston on November 29, 1938, daughter of the late Charles Amasa Whitney and Janice (MacLean) Whitney. Barbara was raised in Gardner and was a graduate from Gardner High School in 1957. She moved to Lunenburg, where she lived for 44 years before moving to her summer home in Ashburnham where she lived for over 20 years
Barbara was a warm, compassionate person with an infectious smile. She was an avid Celtics fan, enjoyed reading, playing games, and was a talented knitter. Barbara especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Her husband of 52 years, David E. Griffin, died in 2013. She leaves three children, Charles W. “Chuck” Griffin and wife Patricia of Ashby, John D. Griffin and fiance Deborah of Rindge, NH, and Sarah A. Griffin of Ashburnham; grandchildren, John Griffin, Brigid Griffin, Kyleigh McConell, and Corwin McConell; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Whitney and a sister, Elizabeth Whitney Gray.
Private burial will be in Crystal Lake Cemetery, Gardner.
