WINCHENDON – Barbara E. LaPlante, 77, of 325 Maple Street, Winchendon died peacefully Sunday morning, September 30th, with her loving family at her side.

She was born in Newark, New Jersey on September 22, 1935, and lived in Winchendon for 53 years. Barbara was a 1954 graduate of Fitchburg High School and a 1957 graduate of Henry Heywood Hospital School of Nursing.

Barbara worked as a registered nurse at Heywood Hospital and the former Winchendon Hospital for several years. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Baldwinville. Over the years, she volunteered for numerous local organizations, such as Winchendon Cares, which sends care packages to our military, and she also supported the local school music programs. She had a passion for knitting and crocheting, donating her hats, mittens, and afghans to hospitals for their cancer patients, as well as others in need.

Barbara enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and baking them chocolate chip cookies.

She leaves her husband of 53 years, Leon W. LaPlante; two children, Christopher LaPlante of Laguna Beach, CA and his daughters, Nicole and Michelle, and Renelle LaPlante and her husband, Chris Dobbs of Los Angeles, CA and their children, Ava and Jack. She also leaves her sister, Patricia Williamson, and a nephew, Peter Dane and his wife, Wendy.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friends of Music, in care of Maureen Provost, 71 Belmont Avenue, Winchendon, MA 01475 or to Transitional Care Center of Heywood Hospital, 242 Green Street, Gardner, MA. 01440.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Winchendon.
