FITZWILLIAM, NH – Beverly (Fontaine) Damon, 82, of Fitzwilliam, died peacefully Friday afternoon, June 15th in Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH.
She was born in Winchendon on October 29, 1929, daughter of the late Norbert J. and Elsie J. (White) Fontaine, and lived in Fitzwilliam and Winchendon for her entire life.
Beverly worked for many years as a switchboard operator for New England Telephone Company. She was a 1948 graduate of Murdock High School. An avid swimmer, she was a member of Fitzwilliam Swimming Club and enjoyed doing water aerobics at the Clark Memorial in Winchendon. Beverly had an extensive hat collection and spent much time with her flower and vegetable gardens. She was very acrobatic and had been a drum majorette. She loved to play cards and dominos with many friends at Woodbrook. Her other hobbies included rug braiding, ice skating, cooking and always adding to her enormous collection of cookbooks. She especially enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.
Her husband of 56 ½ years, John R. Damon, died in January of this year. She leaves two sons, Harry Damon and companion Sandy Kiritsy of Fitzwilliam, NH and Timothy Damon of Fitzwilliam, NH; two daughters, Joyce Damon Foster and her husband Les of Keene, NH and Christine Damon Newis and her husband Robert of Sudbury, MA; three grandchildren, Christopher, Sarah and Jonas; three great grandchildren, Kayla, Zachary and Jonathan and one niece, Linda Fontaine Bredberg and a nephew, Steven Fontaine and several cousins. Beverly was predeceased by a brother, Norbert J. Fontaine, Jr. and a sister, Claire A. Fontaine.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 23rd at 10 A.M. in Fitzwilliam Congregational Church, U.C.C., Head of Fitzwilliam Common, Fitzwilliam. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Winchendon.
