GARDNER - Beverly L. Black, 94, of 71 Summer Street, died peacefully Sunday, June 4, 2017 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, University Campus, after a short illness.

She was born in Gardner in 1922, daughter of the late Everett H. and Cassen E. (Hicks) Black  and graduated from Gardner High School in 1940.  Beverly was a lifelong resident of Gardner.

Beverly worked for Mass. Electric Company and New England Electric Company for 42 years as a customer service representative until her retirement.  She was a member of First Baptist Church since 1943 and had served as a Sunday School teacher and on its diaconate and many church committees.  She was a charter member of South Gardner Historical Society, for which she once served as secretary and a tour guide.  Beverly had also been a member of Gardner Women's Club and a volunteer at Heywood Hospital.

She is survived by nieces, Daryl (Young) Forth and her husband Ronald of Sandwich and Diana (Young) Clark and her husband Phillip Clark of West Kingston, RI and many other nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, of whom she was very fond.  Beverly was predeceased by a sister Marjorie E. Young and a brother, Everett H. Black, Jr.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June14, 2017 at 11 A.M. in First Baptist Church, 14 High Street, Gardner.  The Rev. Jim Hinds will officiate.

Burial will be in Green Bower Cemetery.

Calling hours in the church will be Wednesday, June 14th from 10 to 11 A.M. preceding the funeral.
