WINCHENDON – B. Ruth (O’Malley) Van Zandt, 72, of 129 Ipswich Drive, Winchendon, died peacefully Thursday morning, January 10th at her residence, with her family at her side.
She was born in Winchendon on May 15, 1940, daughter of the late William J. and Bernice (Lyon) O’Malley and lived in Winchendon for most of her life.
Ruth was a former teacher’s aide and had worked as a certified nurse’s assistant at Leo P. LaChance Nursing Home, Gardner. She was a member of Lt. Frederick Wilder White Post 2158 Ladies Auxiliary. She loved her family and enjoyed time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had earned her GED after raising her children.
She leaves seven children, Cheryl deOliveira of Winchendon, Bonnie Batchelder of Gardner, Christy Maillet of TN, Marc Lemmer of TX, Steven Lemmer of TX, James Lemmer of Winchendon and Matthew Lemmer of OH; her brothers and sisters, Mary Dumont of Ellenton, FL, Bernard O’Malley of Athol, Thomas O’Malley of Winchendon, Helen Cain of CA, Barbara Maillet of Gardner and Alice McGovern of Templeton; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. A son, Robert A. Lemmer, Jr and two brothers, William O’Malley and John O’Malley, predeceased her.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 14th at 4 P.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Francis A. Roberge will officiate.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Monday, January 14th from 2 to 4 P.M. preceding the funeral service.
