ASHBURNHAM - Burton L. Fletcher, 86, of Ashburnham, died peacefully at his residence Thursday morning, May 9, 2019, with his family at his side.
He was born in Rindge, NH on May 19, 1932 and was predeceased by his parents, Frederick O. Fletcher in 1965 and Dorothy L. (Bartlett) Fletcher in 1994. In 1951 he graduated from Fitchburg High School and entered the United States Navy, serving until his discharge in 1955. While a youth, he was an Eagle Scout and he had served as a volunteer firefighter.
He had worked at Simonds Saw and Steel in Fitchburg, Simplex Time Recorder and then went to work for Wilson Bus Lines, driving a tour bus. He last worked at Boutwell’s Garage as a mechanic and school bus driver. Following his retirement from Boutwell’s, he enjoyed mowing his lawn of four acres and being outside in the fresh summer air and winter, when he snow blowed his yard.
His memberships included a lifetime membership of Fitchburg Sportsman Club and a 50 year membership of Ashburnham Grange #202.
He leaves a sister, Ruby Shannon of Ashburnham; two nieces and five nephews and several great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Floyd in 1973; his sister Evelyn in 2011 and his twin sister Barbara L. Streeter in 2014.
Funeral services will be private and the convenience of the family.
