Carlene Whitehead

August 12, 1934 — August 16, 2024

It is with great sadness, yet a profound sense of gratitude for a full life well-lived, that we announce the passing of Carlene A. Whitehead who left us on August 16, 2024. Born in Fitchburg, MA, on August 12, 1934, to Carlton and Mary Swift. Carlene lived a vibrant and charismatic life that touched many hearts. A natural entertainer, Carlene was known for her quick wit, infectious laughter, and the gift of making everyone around her feel special. Her colorful stories and canny observations on life were always delivered with a twinkle in her eye and a contagious sense of humor. Carlene's intelligence was as evident as her humor. She spent her professional life as a server at a local restaurant and as an assembler in the medical device manufacturing company. Upon retiring, she immersed herself in her hobbies, which were as diverse as her personality. Whether she was cheering on the Red Sox, trying her luck at a casino, visiting the ocean, or cooking a family favorite recipe, Carlene embraced life with a zest that was truly admirable. Above all, family was Carlene's heart and joy. She leaves behind her children Donna Andrews and husband Hal, Lisa Pelkey, Mark Taylor, Michael Whitehead and wife Jen. Carlene was a proud Grandmother to 9 Grandchildren, 12 Great-grandchildren, and 2 Great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a brother, Don Swift and wife Carolyn, and her niece, Jill Evans and husband Michael, as well as many nieces and nephews. Carlene was preceded in death by her parents Carlton and Mary Swift, her husband Melvin Whitehead, sister Jewel Fitzgibbon and son Jay Taylor. In her family, Carlene instilled a sense of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of laughter. As Robert Brault once said, "In the end, there won't be anyone who remembers our memories. Therefore, we must make them unforgettable." There will be a private graveside burial for Carlene at a later date determined by the family.

Kevin J. Mack, Walter C. Taylor, Melissa A. McQuaid, Funeral Directors.
