ROYALSTON – Catherine Bernice Guiney, 87, of Royalston, died peacefully Sunday afternoon, July 10 th in Baldwinville Nursing Home, Baldwinville, with her family at her side.

She was born in Arlington, MA on May 15, 1924, the daughter of Helen B. (Robinson) Guiney and John Joseph Guiney. She attended Arlington Schools and Mount St. Joseph Academy in Brighton. She studied classical music for 13 years and assisted in the music program at the school. In 1946 she entered the Order of Carmelites and professed her vows as a nun. Due to health problems, she was released from her vows in 1949. She became a bookkeeper in various companies, including the John Hancock Life Insurance Company, as well as being a bookkeeper for her father in his business. Her mother’s ill health caused her to leave her position and care for her until her death. Catherine was an active member of the Third Order of Carmelites.

In 1968, Catherine moved to Royalston, with her father and brother, and she tended to her father in his illness and afterwards her brother, upon his retirement as a priest of the Archdiocese of Boston.

Catherine is survived by her brother, William P. Guiney and his wife Betty of Boca Raton, FL and Andover, MA; her sister Helen Feleciano of Royalston and nieces, nephews and cousins. Her brother, Father John E. Guiney, died in 1999.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, July 13 th at 9 A.M. in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Chapel, Route 68, South Royalston. Burial will be in Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge, MA.

Calling hours in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon will be Tuesday, July 12 th from 6 to 8 P.M.
