WINCHENDON – Catherine E. “Kitty” (Dunphy) Dandy, 86, of 11 Pearl Street, Winchendon, formerly of Somerville, died peacefully Tuesday afternoon, July 24th in Legend Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Gardner, with her family at her side.
She was born in North Sydney, Nova Scotia on June 15, 1926, daughter of the late Michael and Annie Elizabeth (Young) Dunphy. In 1961, she moved from Nova Scotia to Somerville, where she lived for many years until moving to Winchendon in October, 2010
While living in Somerville, Catherine was a home health care worker for the elderly. She enjoyed gardening and making puzzles. She loved her shih tzu “Gilly” and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Catherine attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
Her husband of 43 years, Henry Dandy, died on March 21, 1987. She leaves two sons, Harold Dandy and his wife Lisa of Ashburnham and Ronald Dandy and his wife Kathie of Georgetown; a sister, Alice MacPherson of Northbrook, Ontario and William Dunphy of Bloomfield, Ontario; eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, as well as many nephews and nieces. Two sons, Ralph Dandy and Murry Dandy; a granddaughter, Rachel Dandy; four brothers, Doug Dunphy, Arthur Dunphy, Mike Dunphy and Eddie Dunphy, and three sisters, Hattie Keagen, Margaret Moore and Lillian Boutilier predeceased her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, July 30th at 10 A.M. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 52 Spruce Street, Winchendon. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
