ASHBURNHAM – Cecile M. (Gravelle) Skehan, 93, of 174 Center Street, died peacefully at her residence Thursday afternoon, November 27th, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Fitchburg on June 1, 1921, daughter of the late Arthur and Martha (Nasby) Gravelle and graduated from St. Josephs High School. She was a resident of Ashburnham for many years.
Cecile worked for many years as a spinner at Fitchburg Yarn Co. A communicant of St. Denis Church, her family and faith were most important to her. She loved listening to music and dancing with her late husband, with whom she enjoyed taking afternoon drives. Additionally, Cecile enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino.
Her beloved husband of 67 years, John P. Skehan Sr., died in 2012. She leaves two sons, John P. Skehan Jr and his wife Leona of Ashburnham and James M. Skehan and his wife Anna of Westminster; five daughters, Sharon Berman and her husband Louis of FL, Cecile Pucko of Ashburnham, Maureen LaBrecque and her husband Donald of Ashburnham, Nancy Skehan of Ashburnham and her companion Paul Saari of Templeton and Susan Skehan and her partner Ray Kujala of Hubbardston; a brother, Gene Gravelle of Missouri; two sisters, Honey Beauregard of Orange and Eunice Mullins of Illinois, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. A daughter, Joanne LeClair, preceded her in death in 2009.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 2nd at 1 P.M. in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon. The Rev. John Horgan will officiate. There are no calling hours.
