ROYALSTON – Charles Murray, 91, of Royalston, died peacefully Friday, January 13, 2023 in Fitchburg Healthcare, Fitchburg.

He was born in Everett on April 30, 1931, son of the late Charles and Mary (Lavery) Murray.  He grew up in Everett and graduated from Everett High School.  He later lived in Woburn and moved to Royalston in 1995.

Charles proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean War.  For many years he was as a civilian worker at Fort Devens, maintaining its grounds and ball fields.  Many years ago he had worked at Chelsea Naval Hospital.

His wife of 34 years, Helen (Pratt) Murray, died in 2000.  He leaves a son, Charles F. Murray of Lunenburg; two stepdaughters, Karen Strunk of Fitchburg and Teri Ames of Brattleboro, VT and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Richard Murray, Robert Murray and Urmah Jamerson and stepdaughter, Kathy Powell.

Military funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 2 P.M. in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.

Contributions may be made sent to the funeral home to help defray the funeral costs.
