WINCHENDON – Conrad E. Roy, 90, of 104 Ipswich Drive, died peacefully Friday afternoon, February 14th in Legend Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Gardner, with his family at his side.
A lifelong resident of Winchendon, Conrad was born on May 3, 1923, son of the late Luke and Anna (Vaine) Roy.
Conrad worked for many years as a truck driver. His last employment was with Sprague and Carleton Furniture Co. in Keene. Conrad proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War Two. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon, American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two bronze service stars and a Purple Heart.
He was a 60 year member of Eugene M. Connor Post 193 American Legion and was a member of Lt. Frederick Wilder White Post 2158 VFW and Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Conrad was an avid cribbage player and enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with his family.
His wife of 54 years, Gertrude A. (Dreschmann) Roy, died in 2002. He leaves five nieces, Nancy Peirce of Winchendon, Carole Roberts and her husband Arthur of Orange, Janet Morey and her fiancé Thomas Connolly of Rindge, NH, Gail Smith and her husband Jack of Winchendon and Patricia Blanchard and her husband Al of Westminster; a nephew, David Roy of Gardner, grandnieces and grandnephews. Two brothers, Alfred Roy and Joseph Roy, and a niece, Paula LaFarr, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 19th at 11 A.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. A calling hour will be held Wednesday from 10 to 11 A.M. Wednesday preceding the service. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
