SUMMERFIELD, FL – Daniel A. LaVorgna, 85, of Summerfield, FL, formerly of Townsend, MA, died peacefully Wednesday morning, January 7th at Cornerstone Hospice, The Villages, FL.
He was born in New Haven, CT on June 16, 1929, son of the late Anthony and Margaret (Ives) LaVorgna and had lived in Summerfield for 14 years. He previously lived in Townsend, MA for 29 years before moving to Florida.
Dan proudly served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army for twenty years until his retirement from active duty. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal w/olc, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal w/dvc 60.
Following his military career, Dan worked at Sterilite Corporation, New England Business Service and later sold Electrolux vacuum cleaners. You might have seen him in the Townsend area driving a Van with an antique Electrolux vacuum cleaner on the roof. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Elisabeth (Harlander) LaVorgna; four children, Caroline Griffis of Lunenburg, MA, Daniel M. LaVorgna of Clearwater, FL, Margaret Tapply and her husband Mark of Leominster, MA and Elizabeth LaVorgna of Newfane, VT; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; his brothers William LaVorgna of CT, Tony LaVorgna of CT, and a sister Tina Brown of NM, and many nieces and nephews.
Military funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 20th at 1:00 PM in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA. The Rev. Francis A. Roberge will officiate.
