LEOMINSTER – Daniel M. “Sonny” Fortunato, 75 of 152 Lancaster Street, Leominster and a former resident of Winchendon, died Thursday, September 20th at his residence.
He was born in Fitchburg on October 29, 1936, the son of the late Daniel and Rita (Hanks) Fortunato and grew up in Winchendon. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1956 and had worked for over 25 years as a foreman at the former Tucker Housewares in Leominster until retiring in 2002.
In most recent years, Dan was an active volunteer for the United Methodist Church in Leominster. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, playing cribbage and going for long walks. Most of all, he enjoyed the company of and conversation with his many friends and family.
His wife of 48 years, Theresa M. (Pellerin) Fortunato, died in 2011. He leaves his daughter, Robin Easton and her husband Glenn; three grandchildren, Amy (Munoz) Saldana, Eric Daniel Easton and Andrew D. Easton and two great grandchildren, Mayhanna Theresa Saldana and Marius Daniel Saldana, all of Leominster; two sisters, Lucille LaPointe of Winchendon and Bonnie Parmenter of Jaffrey, NH along with several nephews and nieces. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, Anthony Fortunato and David Fortunato.
Military funeral services will be held Monday, October 1st at 11 A.M. in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
Calling hours in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon are Sunday, September 30th from 5 to 7 P.M.
