David A. Varone

ASHBURNHAM – David A. Varone, 72, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, September 22, 2020 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner.

He was born in Ayer, MA on June 16, 1948, son of the late Reginald J.(Manchaug, MA) and Thelma (McPhee) Varone (New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada). He was a graduate of Bromfield High School in Harvard, MA.  He later graduated from Emerson College, where he studied to be a radio announcer.

Dave proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War where he proudly was a radio announcer for the troops in Turkey, Azores,and at Andrews Air Force Base in the US.  He had worked at Ft Devens as a calibrator and for the last ten years before his retirement, he worked as a Electronics Technician I/P for FEMA out of Maynard, MA.

Dave was an avid fisherman and photographer.  He had been a member of two competitive fishing clubs and was a member of St. Denis Church. He also took pride in being the facebook administrator for the Bromfield High School Alumni and Ambrosia,  photography sharing site.

He leaves his wife of 47 years,  Mary E. “Merrily” (Jorns) Varone; two sons, Eric D. Varone of Chicopee and Christopher J. Varone and his wife Rachel of Framingham and two sisters, Kathy R. Varone of Wells, ME and Judith A. Varone of Falmouth, MA

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 5, 2020 at 10 A.M. at St. Denis Church, 85 Main Street, Ashburnham.  Burial, with military honors, will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon, MA.
