David E. Griffin

April 25, 1939 — January 15, 2013

ASHBURNHAM – David E. Griffin, 73, of Ashburnham died peacefully Tuesday morning, January 15th in Legend Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Gardner.

He was born in Norwood, MA on April 25, 1939, son of the late Charles and Doris (Norton) Griffin.  Dave was raised in Gardner and was a 1957 graduate of Gardner High School.  He moved to Lunenburg in 1960, where he lived for 44 years before retiring to his summer home in Ashburnham in 2004.

Dave was a union contractor for several years and then became self-employed, owning and operating D.E. Griffin Construction Company of Lunenburg.  He was a member of the Board of Directors of Far Hills Association for over thirty years and was a member of the United Parish Church of Lunenburg.  He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, the Lunenburg Mens Bowling and Horseshoe League and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.  Dave was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

He leaves his wife of 52 years, Barbara (Whitney) Griffin; three children, Charles W. “Chuck” Griffin and his wife Patricia of Ashby, John D. Griffin of Ashburnham and Sarah A. Griffin of Ludlow, VT; two grandchildren, John Griffin and Brigid Griffin; a brother, Paul Griffin and his wife Nancy of Columbus, OH; two sisters, Alma Kelly and her husband Ronald of Palmyra, VA and Judith Palmer of Franklin, MA and many nephews and nieces.  Two brothers, Charles Griffin and Robert Griffin, predeceased him.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 19th at 11:30 A.M. in The United Parish Church of Lunenburg, 39 Main Street, Lunenburg.  There are no calling hours.

Burial will be in Crystal Lake Cemetery, Gardner.
