GARDNER – David H. Thompson, 77, of 11 Sylvan Road, died unexpectedly, Friday morning, July 15th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner.
He was born in Gardner on January 12, 1939, son of the late William and Esther (Luoma) Thompson and was a lifelong resident of Gardner.
Dave was a 1957 graduate of Gardner High School, where he was co-captain of both the football and baseball teams. In 2002, he was inducted in the Gardner High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the former First Lutheran Church, serving both churches as an usher and greeter. He was also a member and past president of Gardner Lions Club.
Dave worked in revenue protection for Massachusetts Electric from 1960 until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the WAGEL Club and a former Union President. An avid sports fan, his favorite baseball player was Ted Williams. He enjoyed bowling and played in bowling leagues and also played semi-pro baseball in earlier years as a member of the Gardner Merchants. He especially treasured time with his family.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Jeanne I. (Nowlan) Thompson; two daughters, Kathleen J. Miller of Amesbury and Linda A. Jenks of Gardner; a brother, Edward T. Thompson of Gardner; three grandchildren, Brittany Wolkovits and her husband Michael, David J. Miller and Kevin A. Miller; two great grandchildren, Madison B. Wolkovits and Noah M. Wolkovits, as well as nieces and nephews. A brother, William Thompson, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 19th at 11 A.M. in Faith Lutheran Church, 627 Green Street, Gardner. Burial will follow in St. Johns Cemetery.
