David R. Alm

TEMPLETON - David R. Alm, 59, of 61 Cook Road, Templeton, formerly of Hubbardston, died Monday, February 16th in UMASS Memorial Healthcare, University Campus, Worcester. He was born in Westfield, MA. on October 14,1949, the son of the late Leonard and Betty (Hallock) Alm and lived in Hubbardston for most of his life until moving to Templeton in 2004. For many years, Dave was a part-time firefighter in both Hubbardston and Gardner and had also been a part-time policeman for the Town of Hubbardston. He also worked for several years for the Town of Hubbardston Highway Department. Dave worked at Curtis Lumber Co. in Hubbardston for over eight years and most recently worked as a truck driver for 16 years at RVJ Inc. in Leominster before retiring in 2002. A sports enthusiast, Dave enjoyed fishing, hunting, the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He enjoyed learning about World War Two and loved basset hounds. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family and grandchildren. He leaves his wife of 16 years, Mary E. (Dean) Alm; two sons, Michael T. Alm and his wife Kristin of Knoxsville, TN and David J. Alm of Alexandria, VA.; two daughters, Christine A. Valcourt and her husband Travis of Guilford, VT and Susan J. Koucoules and her husband Myke of Orange; a brother Karl Alm and his wife Robin of West Brookfield, MA.; five grandchildren, Daniel, Steven, Anissa, Katherine and Ellery, as well as two nephews, Craig and Wyatt. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 20th at Noon in the Bethany Baptist Church, 72 Ryan Street, Gardner. The Rev. Dan Meiners will officiate. Calling hours in the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon are Thursday, February 19th from 6 to 8 P.M. Burial will be in Lower Cemetery, Phillipston in the spring.
