Dennis A. Girard

WINCHENDON – Dennis A. Girard, 65, of 433 Brown Street, Winchendon died peacefully at home, Friday morning, January 17th, with his family at his side.
He was born in Winchendon on March 26, 1948, son of the late George J. and Gertrude R. (Page) Girard, was educated in Winchendon schools and was a lifelong resident of Winchendon.
Dennis worked many years ago at Temple Stuart and M.H. Parks Furniture Company. He later bought Leo Veilleux Roofing and Siding, which he and his brothers operated. Later, he bought Nick’s Use Cars in Fitzwilliam, NH and owned the former Andersons Auto Body of Winchendon, where he also operated a used car business. Dennis owned and operated various apartment buildings in Winchendon. He and his brother Jim built Goodrich Apartments.
Dennis and his son Ken founded Winchendon Used Auto Parts on Lincoln Avenue Extension, which is now known as Girard’s. He had a passion for work and would enjoy having his german shepherd Trooper at his side. He also had a pet raccoon “Ricky.” Dennis was a former member of Winchendon Rod and Gun Club and he would generously donate to its annual fishing derby. Having a soft spot for children, his favorite charity was St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and found enjoyment in fishing.
He leaves his wife Kathleen R. (Dunham) Girard; three children, Kenneth A. Girard and his wife Amy of Winchendon, Dawn C. Gauthier and her husband Eric of Winchendon; three grandchildren, Dakota A. Girard, Macaylia L. Cochran-Gauthier and Seth A. Cochran-Gauthier; two step grandchildren, Shane Girard and Nicholas LeBlanc; two stepsons, Gene Duffy and Shawn L. Girard, both of Winchendon; his siblings, George J. “Sonny” Girard Jr of Winchendon, Larry E. Girard of Baldwinville, Gordon C. Girard of Oak Island, NC, David M. Girard of Winchendon and Linda M. Braun of Royalston, as well as many nephews and nieces. A son, Kris K. “KK” Girard; two brothers, James L. Girard and Richard L. Girard and a sister, Barbara A. Girard, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 21st at 2 P.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Jay Lillie will officiate.
Calling hours in the funeral home are Monday, January 20th from 5 to 8 P.M.
