WINCHENDON – Donald A. Morneau, 86, formerly of 66 West Street, Winchendon, died peacefully Thursday morning, October 13th, in Baldwinville Nursing Home, Baldwinville, following a short illness.

He was born in Templeton on August 5, 1925, the son of the late Henry A. and Christine M. (Locke) Morneau and was a lifelong resident of Winchendon.

Don graduated from Murdock High School with the Class of 1942 and then joined the United States Navy, proudly serving aboard the USS Lough.

Don was a self-employed plumber for many years before his retirement.  He was a member of Eugene M. Connor Post 193 American Legion and Lt. Frederick Wilder White Post 2158 VFW.  Don loved his family and had many hobbies, including cooking, gardening, fishing and archery.  He held state and New England championship titles in archery.  He made his own long bows and arrows and patented a bow harness.

His wife of 50 years, Janet D. (Ashmore) Morneau, died in 1998.  He leaves three daughters, Phyllis Beauvais and her husband James of Rindge, NH, Judith Morneau of Winchendon and Donna Mills of El Paso, TX; three grandchildren, Matthew Beauvais of Rindge, Kyle Morneau of Winchendon and Shalla Copeland and her husband Kenneth of El Paso, TX and many nephews and nieces.  Two brothers, Louis “Pete” Morneau and George N. Morneau, predeceased him.

A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, October 21st at 10 A.M. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 52 Spruce Street, Winchendon.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.  Following services, a luncheon will be served at the Glen Caffe, Glenallen Street, Winchendon.  There are no calling hours.
