GARDNER – Donald J. “Zizzy” Gallant, 84, of 334 Pine Street, Gardner, died peacefully Monday afternoon, December 30th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, University Campus, Worcester, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Gardner of March 13, 1929, son of the late Wilfred and Oberline (Richard) Gallant.  He attended Our Lady of Holy Rosary School and lived in Gardner his entire life.

Zizzy worked for many years at Harrington and Richardson until his retirement in 1991.  Since his retirement, he worked part time doing wallpapering and painting.  He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church and Ovila Case #905 VFW.  During the Korean War, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.

Zizzy was a scoutmaster for many years for Troop 9 at Holy Rosary Church and with Troop 20 at Ovila Case #905 VFW.  He enjoyed camping and card playing and found his greatest enjoyment spending time with his family.

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Gertrude H. (Aucoin) Gallant; three sons, Raymond W. Gallant and his wife Monika of Templeton, Robert D. Gallant of Gardner and Ronald F. Gallant and his husband John Terho of Fitchburg; a grandson, Kristopher R. Gallant of Templeton; two sisters Stella Poirier of Mt. Carmel, TN and Loraine Arsenault of Gardner; a special nephew Francis Jaillet and companion Judith A. Duteau of Baldwinville and other nephews and nieces.  He was predeceased by a son, Roger A. Gallant; a grandson Adam R. Gallant; a sister Doris Poirier and two brothers, Normand “Custard” Gallant and Wilfred “Junior” Gallant.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 6th at 9 A.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon.  The Rev. Francis A. Roberge will officiate.  Burial, with military honors, will follow in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.

There are no calling hours.
