Doris A. Barber

GARDNER - Doris A. Barber, 88, of 164D Blanchard Street, Gardner died Monday evening, February 4th in the Baldwinville Nursing Home, Baldwinville. She was born in Gardner on January 17,1920, the daughter of Clarence A. and Amy C. (Young) Fowler and was a lifelong resident of South Gardner. Doris was a dietary aide in the Dietary Department of Heywood Hospital for 15 years until her retirement. She was a 1938 graduate of Gardner High School. A charter member of the South Gardner Historical Society, she was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church, where she belonged to its former Just A Mere Circle. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family. Her husband of 33 years, Reginald W. Barber, died in 1976. She leaves a daughter, Beverly A. Higley and her husband Steven P. of East Templeton; two grandchildren, Kirsten E. Higley and William E. Higley and several cousins in the Worcester area. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 7th at 11 A.M. in the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Dr. R. Gary Heikkila, interim pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate. Calling hours in the funeral home will be Thursday from 10 to 11 A.M. preceding the funeral. Burial will be in Green Bower Cemetery, Gardner at a later date.
