Doris E. (Burns) Adams

GARDNER – Doris E. (Burns) Adams, 88, of 93 Cherry Street, Gardner, died peacefully Tuesday afternoon, June 5th in Baldwinville Nursing Home.

She was born in Saumur, France on October 11, 1923, daughter of the late Bryant and Marthe (Lamy) Burns and had lived in Gardner since 1965.

Doris came to the United States at the age of 3 and graduated from Murdock High School in Winchendon in 1941 and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Anna Maria College.  She had worked  in Mental Health at Heywood Hospital and Burbank Hospital and was the first Director of Nursing at the former Eastwood Pines Nursing Home.  Doris was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.  Her hobbies included cooking, embroidery, reading and stained glass work.  She mostly enjoyed spending time with her family and had traveled across country in the motor home.

She leaves her husband, William W. Adams; five children, William Douglas Adams and his wife Sedonia of Augusta, GA, Kathleen Vincent of El Cerrito, CA, David Adams and his wife Shirley of Richmond, VA, Mary “Connie” Varney and her husband Donald of Phillipston and Kenneth Adams and his wife Terry of Greenfield; a brother, Robert Burns of Twin Mountain, NH, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 11th at 11 A.M. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 166 Cross Street, Gardner.  Burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.  There are no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
