GARDNER - Dorothy E. (Allard) Mattson, 85, of 146 High Street, Gardner, died peacefully Monday evening, January 19th in the Leo P. LaChance Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Gardner. She was born in Gardner on May 19,1923, the daughter of the late William and Sophie (Broda) Allard and was a lifelong resident of Gardner. Dot was a mental health assistant at the former Gardner State Hospital and Worcester State Hospital until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of Holy Spirit Church and the Gardner Golden Agers. Dot attended Gardner High School. Her husband, Bertel Mattson, died in 1990 and her son, Dennis Mattson of Pocasset, died in 2002. She leaves a grandson, Michael D. Mattson and his wife Lori of Templeton; a brother, Raymond Allard of Baldwinville, a sister, Irene Cormier of Gardner; a daughter-in-law, Sheila Mattson of Pocasset; a sister-in-law, Marion Allard of Gardner; two nieces, Sue Charland and her companion Ronald Ahlstrom of Gardner and Jayne Hallock and her husband Peter of Gardner; a nephew, Steven Cormier and his wife Janice of CT.; and three great grandchildren, Evan Mattson, Lauryn Mattson and Ryan Mattson. A brother, Edmond Allard, a brother-in-law, Victor Cormier, and a sister-in-law, Ethel Allard, predeceased her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, January 23rd at 10 A.M. in Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Gardner. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 60 Walnut Street, Wellesley Hills, MA. 02481.
