WESTMINSTER – Dorothy J. (Hancock) Twing, 82, of 102 North Common Road, died peacefully Tuesday evening, July 8th at her residence, with her family at her side.
She was born in Gardner on February 27, 1932, daughter of the late Melvin Hancock and Emma (Whitcomb) Hancock Parker and was a 1950 graduate of Fitchburg High School. She returned to this area 20 years ago moving to Westminster after living in California at a small cattle ranch, owned by she and her husband.
Dorothy was a proof reader for the Santa Maria Times while living in California. Many years ago, she worked as a telephone switchboard operator and was one of Westminster telephone operators, and as a receptionist at Simplex Time Recorder. She and her husband loved to travel and had made 33 trips across country and visited 47 states. She loved to entertain and put on themed parties for family and close friends. She was a member of Higher Ground Ministries in Gardner.
She leaves her husband of 62 years, Donald A. Twing; their children, Kathleen Fredericks and her husband Steven of Westminster, the late Rev. Kerry Twing and his wife Virginia of Westminster, Janie Higgs and her husband John of Littleton, Colorado and Jacqueline Twing of Gardner; eleven grandchildren, including the late Jacob Hardy and Charles Hardy; 14 great grandchildren; one brother, Richard Hancock of Gardner; one sister, Virginia Arsenault of Westminster and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
