TEMPLETON - Dorothy L. (Tourtellot) Elwell, 98, of 17 Vernon Street, Baldwinville, died Monday morning, September 3rd in the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner. She was born in Otter River on February 22,1909, the daughter of Charles A. and Edith (Lowell) Tourtellot and lived in Baldwinville for most of her life, other than for brief times in Belmont and Melrose, MA. and Newport, RI. She was a graduate of the former Templeton High School and attended the School of Practical Art in Boston. Dorothy worked at the former Wironen Studios for 22 years until her retirement at the age of 74. She worked in many capacities, which included developing negatives and photograph retouching. Previously, she had worked at the former Coyte Studio in Newport, RI and the former Chair City Photo in Gardner. She was a member of the Memorial Congregational Church in Baldwinville and was a charter member of its Ames More Guild. Dot was the church historian and wrote the last unabridged history of the church. An avid bridge player, she also enjoyed the ocean and watching golf on television. She leaves a son, Charles H. "Butch" Elwell and his wife Linda of Gardner, and two grandchildren, Darren C. Elwell and Meghan K. Elwell. A sister, Gladys Tourtellot, predeceased her. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, September 5th from 6 to 8 P.M. in the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. Burial will be held at a later date in Greenlawn Cemetery, Baldwinville.
