GARDNER - Dr. Henry C. Tenney, 95, of 32 Hospital Hill Gardner, MA., formerly of Winchendon and Keene, NH, died Saturday morning, December 20th in the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner. He was born in Fitzwilliam, NH on July 27,1923, the son of the late and Guy W. and Alice E. (Kennett) Tenney and lived in Manchester, CT. for many years. He lived in Falmouth, MA. from 1960 to 1983, when he moved to Keene , NH, where he lived from 1983 to 2000. He had lived in Gardner since 2001. Henry was a 1931 graduate of Murdock High School in Winchendon and received his Bachelors Degree in Education from Fitchburg State College in 1935, his Masters Degree from the University of Connecticutt in 1936 and his Doctorate in 1942. He taught in Barre, MA. at one time and was Principal of Schools in Darien CT. Henry went on to be Superintendent of Schools in West Hartford, CT. He was Registrar of the University of Connecticutt and Professor of English and Head of the English Department until his retirement in 1960. At that time, he moved to Falmouth, where he was Director of Elderly Housing. His wife of 42 years, Mildred S. (Starkey) Tenney, died in 2001. He leaves a sister, N. Maxine Driscoll of Quabbin Healthcare Facility in Athol and his caregiver, Kenneth E. Broughton of Winchendon. A brother, Robert W. Tenney and a sister, Elizabeth A. Drudi, both of Winchendon, predeceased him. Burial will be in the spring in Village Cemetery in Fitzwilliam, NH.
