WINCHENDON – Earl C. Mowrey, 82, of 25 Nash Road, Winchendon died Saturday evening, November 3rd in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, with his family at his side.

He was born in Jamaica, VT on November 20, 1929, son of the late George P. and Delia P. (Beebe) Mowrey and had lived in Winchendon for nearly 60 years.

Earl grew up in Jamaica, Vermont and graduated from Leland and Gray High School in Townshend, VT.  During the Korean War, he proudly served in the United States Army from 1951 until his discharge in 1953.  He was a member of Eugene M. Connor Post 193 American Legion in Winchendon.

Earl worked as a meat cutter for many years.  He worked at the former Joe’s Market and later at A&P and Victory Supermarkets as well as Mid Town Beef in Leominster.  He enjoyed repairing antique cars.  A NASCAR enthusiast, Earl enjoyed attending NASCAR races at Loudon, NH.

He leaves his wife, Shirley (Breton) Mowrey; a son, Robin “Bunzy” Mowrey and his wife Sherri of Royalston; two grandchildren, Nikolas Mowrey and Allisyn Mowrey; three brothers, Bernard Mowrey of Chester, VT, Carl Mowrey of Jamaica, VT and Leon Mowrey of West Townshend, VT; a sister, Louise Miller of San Antonio, TX and many nephews and nieces.  His first wife, Jeannette (Desmarais) Mowrey died in 1972.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 9th at 12 Noon in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon.  Burial, with military honors, will follow in Masachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.

Calling hours in the funeral home will be Thursday, November 8th from 6 to 8 P.M.  Members of Eugene M. Connor Post 193 will conduct Legion services at 7 P.M.
