TEMPLETON - Edward D. Brehio, 83, of 533 Baldwinville Rd. Baldwinville, died peacefully Friday morning, March 25 th in Legend Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, Gardner.
He was born in Templeton, MA on April 15, 1927, son of the late and Edward J. and Marguerite F. (Whitney) Brehio and was a lifelong resident of Templeton.
Ed was an upholsterer for many years. He first worked at Gardner Craftsmen and then was self-employed for several years until his retirement.
During World War Two, Ed proudly served his country as a Seaman Second Class in the United States Navy. He served in Pacific Theatre and received the World War Two Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon with 3 battle stars, Phillipine Liberation Medal with 1 star and a Letter of Commendation. He was a member of Lt. Roger P. Warfield Post 373 American Legion and St. Vincent de Paul Church in Baldwinville.
Ed was a 30 year member of the Templeton Fire Department, retiring as Deputy Chief. He was one of the four founders of the Templeton Fire Department Rescue Squad. His hobbies included enjoying automobile racing. About 5 years ago he received his high school diploma from the Town of Templeton. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife, Gladys (Mitchell) Brehio; five children, David A. Brehio of Baldwinville, James E. Brehio and his wife Janet of Templeton, Steven R. Brehio and his wife Darlene of Templeton, Edward D. Brehio Jr. and his wife Peggy of Baldwinville and Joan M. Moge and her husband Michael of Baldwinville; a sister, Marion Lancey of Baldwinville; four stepchildren, Peggy Oinonen of Sebring, FL, Kathy Fragale and her husband Renato of Hubbardston, Michael Stewart of Henderson, NV and Chris Stewart and his wife Cindy of Templeton; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, twelve step great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his first wife, Lillian (McGowan) Brehio and four sisters, Merle A. Touchette, Marilyn J. Goodwin, Madeline Taylor and Marjorie Mellen.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 30th from Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. in St. Vincent de Paul Church, 1 Forest Street, Baldwinville.
Burial, with military honors, will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Baldwinville.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Tuesday, March 29th from 6 to 8 P.M. A VFW Service will be held at 7 P.M.
