WINCHENDON – Edward F. Comer, 86, of 12 Royalston Road North, Winchendon, died peacefully Saturday morning, February 5 th , in Legend Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Gardner.
He was born in Winchendon on February 13, 1924, son of the late Joseph F. and Lillian (Cummings) Comer, and had lived in Winchendon for most of his life.
Ed proudly served in The United States Navy as a Seaman First Class during World War Two. He was awarded the World War Two Victory Medal, American Area Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, Seabee Shoulder Insignia and Good Conduct Medal.
Following his discharge, he worked at New England Wooden Ware and later at C.F. Hartshorns until his retirement. He was a member of Eugene M. Connor Post 193 American Legion and Lt. Frederick Wilder White Post 158 VFW. He enjoyed his motorcycle, cats and playing bingo
He leaves a brother, Joseph W. Comer of Winchendon, two nieces, Hope Strait of Winchendon and Stacia M. Tatro of Jaffrey, NH and several grandnieces and grandnephews. He also leaves his many friends at Legend Nursing Center, where the staff fondly called him “Hollywood.”
Military funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 8 th at 1 P.M. in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon. The Rev. David R. Cote will officiate.
