Edward J. Homon

WINCHENDON - Edward J. Homon, 48, of 148 Elm Street, a respected veterans and church leader, died Saturday, August 5th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner after being stricken ill at home. He was born in Peterborough, New Hampshire on November 17,1957, the son of the late J. Alfred Homon, and Lorraine (Pelkey) Homon of Winchendon, and had lived in Winchendon for most of his life. Ed was a magna particle specialist at Nichols Airborn Co., Ft. Devens, where he worked for the last three years. He served in the United States Air Force for over 15 years, serving during Greneda, Lebanon, and Operation Desert Storm. He had been stationed in Delaware, Maryland, Guam and Texas, during his years of service, and retired as a Staff Sergeant. At that time, he returned to Winchendon. In 2003 and 2004, Ed was the commander of Eugene M. Connor Post 193 American Legion in Winchendon. In recent years, he founded the Memorial Day Essay Contest Program for local students. He was the Grand Marshall of Winchendon and organized the annual Veterans Day Services and Memorial Day Services. Ed was also the liason for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts with the Legion. In addition to his Legion work, Ed was a member and current moderator of the United Parish, where he had served for many years on various church committees. He was a member of the Winchendon Lions Club. His enjoyed golf and was a sports enthusiast. Ed graduated from Murdock High School in 1975. In addition to his mother, he leaves his wife of 21 years, Martha (Avery) Homon; two daughters, Ashleigh D. Homon and Shelby K. Homon, both of Winchendon; two brothers, William A. Homon of Leominster and James J. Homon of Winchendon, as well as aunts,uncles, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will. be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, August 10th in the United Parish, 39 Front Street, Winchendon. The Rev. F. Calvin Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon at a later date. Calling hours in the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon will be Wednesday, August 9th from 5 to 8 P.M., with a Legion Service at 7 P.M.
