Edward J. Robillard, 94, of Winchendon, died peacefully Wednesday morning, October 29th, at UMASS Memorial Hospital, Worcester with his two sons at his side.
He was born in Fitchburg on December 23, 1919, son of the late Emile and Marie (Bedard) Robillard and had resided in Winchendon since his marriage in 1947.
Ed worked last as a custodian for Winchendon public schools until his retirement. He previously worked as a weaver for White Brothers Mills, Troy Blanket Mills and as a clerk at W.E. Aubuchon Co.
He proudly served his country during World War II, as a member of the United States Army, the 45th Infantry Division/Thunderbirds in the Sicilian and Italian campaigns. Ed was wounded with shrapnel to his arm in the Anzio, Italy and received the Purple Heart. Ed was a member of Eugene M. Connor Post #193 American Legion and Lt. Frederick Wilder White Post #2158 VFW. A communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for many years, Ed sang in its church choir.
His cherished wife of 56 years, Anita R. (Trottier) Robillard, died in 2003. He leaves two sons, Ronald E. Robillard of Winchendon and Richard L. Robillard and his partner, John Feminella of Worcester He was preceded in death by his eleven brothers and sisters, Joseph , Phillip , Armand, George , RoseAlma Croteau, Armilina LaVallee, Evelyn Boyer Franklin,, Angelina Guilmette Labonte,Florence Roux, and Leona Rogers. He also leaves several nieces and nephews including his God child Anna Sabourin of Fitchburg and his sister in law, Alice Robillard Dufour of Westminster. Ed joins his two special friends, Aurele Theroux and Kenneth Clark of Winchendon, in Heaven.
An avid golfer, Ed started golfing with his younger brother George, at a nine hole course on Alpine Road near the family farm. Ed's nickname was Steady Eddy, as he was a man with a short drive that went straight down the fairway. He was also an excellent chipper and putter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, November 4th at 10 A.M. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 52 Spruce Street, Winchendon. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon
