Eleanor J. Thoms

Eleanor J. Thoms, known endearingly by her late husband Walter, as Ellie or El, departed this life on August 29, 2024, at the age of 89. She was born in the bustling city of New York on March 19, 1935 to William and Gertrude Schildknecht. She later moved to LIttleton, MA in 1971 with her husband and two children where she continued to be a woman of extraordinary spirit, unmatched wit, and a heart that overflowed with love. Eleanor's sharp intellect and quick humor brought joy to those around her, and her devotion to her faith as a Catholic was the cornerstone of her life.

Eleanor was a woman of many accomplishments. She was the valedictorian of her high school class, a testament to her intelligence and dedication. Her astute mind and diligent work ethic led her to a successful career as an executive secretary for Digital Equipment Corporation. Eleanor was not just a smart woman; she was also spirited, often lighting up a room with her presence. Her love for reading led her to volunteer enthusiastically at the local library in Littleton, where she actively participated in the weekly book club. She was also a faithful member of the Blessed Trinity Parish - St Anne Church in Littleton, MA, where she taught CCD. Her contributions to her church and community were invaluable. Eleanor's love for God, her family, and her community was a shining beacon in her life. Her love for fashion was legendary, and she was known as the most fashionable woman in any setting.

Eleanor lived a life full of love, laughter, and faith. She was a loving wife to her late husband, Walter, and a devoted mother to her children, Walt and Eileen. Eleanor was a doting grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren by the pool and hosting cookouts. She also found joy in her regular shopping trips to Talbots and Chico's. Eleanor's resilience in the face of life's challenges, including the loss of her sight, was a testament to her fortitude. Her witty remarks and lighthearted spirit remained undimmed, bringing smiles to the faces of those who were lucky enough to know her.

She leaves behind her son, Walt Thoms (Bob Hotz); her daughter, Eileen Thoms; grandchildren Krysta Standing (Michael), David Partain (Sommer), Jessica Partain; great-grandchildren Christian and Maxx Partain; brother Bill Schildknecht (Mary). Eleanor was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Thoms; her grandson, Justin Partain; her sister, Rita Willour and brother-in-law, William Willour; and her brother-in-law, William Thoms.

As we remember Eleanor's unforgettable life, we echo the words of St. Paul in his letter to the Philippians (4:8), "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." Eleanor embodied all of these virtues, and her memory will continue to be a source of inspiration and comfort.

Elearnor's family will receive guests from 11:30 to 12 Noon at the Church prior to the Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 12:00 pm in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 52 Spruce St., Winchendon, MA., Burial will follow in Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon, MA.
