WINCHENDON – Eleanor F. (Dyer) “Gram” Potter, 96, of 65 Toy Town Lane, died peacefully Monday afternoon, September 8th in Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol, with her family at her side.
She was born in Freeport, Maine on January 18, 1918, daughter of the late Irvin M. And Doris E. (Parlin) Dyer and was a 1936 graduate of Lawrence High School in Fairfield, Maine. She had been a resident of Winchendon since 1967.
Eleanor worked for many years as head cook at the former Gardner State Hospital until her retirement in 1967. She was a long time member and former deaconess at Bethany Bible Chapel and a former member of Winchendon Grange. Eleanor enjoyed painting. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family.
Her husband of 57 years, Max E. Potter, died in 1994. Her two sons, Ellery F. Potter, who died in 2008 and Robert M. Potter, who died in 2010, also preceded her in death. She leaves six grandchildren, Lisa Marie Murphy and her husband Paul of Winchendon, Dawn M. Fitzmaurice and Robert McCarthy of No. Grafton, Robin M. Hicks of Winchendon, Lori A. Thompson and her husband Mark of Royalston, Kelly E. Potter and her fiancé Jeffrey Chandler of Lunenburg and Cristy L. Guy and her husband Victor of Fitchburg; eleven great grandchildren, Tabitha Fournier and her husband Shannon, Cassandra Ballard and her husband Jason, Tyler Max Fitzmaurice and Holly Rossiter, Joshua Daoust, Justin Robert Hicks, Tess Elena Fitzmaurice, Shelby Boucher, Josiah Potter, Serafina Guy, Alexander Guy and Kimberly Chandler; three great great (grape grape) grandchildren, Ayden Fournier, Chloe Fournier and Marlee Fitzmaurice and two daughters–in-law, Jane Potter and Gail Clarke.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 12th at 10 A.M. in Bethany Bible Chapel, 727 Spring Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Thomas Clinkscale will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
