WINCHENDON - Elizabeth M. "Betty" (Murray) Darcy, 84, of 25 Emerald Street, Winchendon, died Monday morning, March 5th in the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner.

She was born in Winchendon on May 6,1922 to Marguerite (Parrott) Murray and John E. Murray, Sr.

She was married for 29 years to Kenneth P. Darcy, who predeceased her in June, 1975. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and friend. Betty leaves her son, Michael P. Darcy and his companion Patricia Fournier, and her daughter, Cindy D. Darcy, all of Winchendon. She also leaves her granddaughter, Jennifer L. Duffy and her husband, Eugene, and her great grandchildren, Paige, Eugene and Michael, with whom she enjoyed an especially close relationship. She leaves her sister, Jean Fredette of Fitchburg and brother, John Murray, Jr. of Winchendon and a special sister-in-law, Shirley Murray. In addition, she leaves several close nieces and nephews, Scott Murray of Portland, Maine, John Murray 3rd of W. Alton Bay, NH (her godson), Lynn Murray and Maureen Provost of Winchendon. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Robert Murray and Richard Murray.

Betty graduated from Murdock High School with the Class of 1940. She put her husband through school, waitressing at the Lake Lodge in Whalom during the 1940's. She was a homemaker while her children were in school. Later in life, she was the Sacristan and Cook at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. She was a crossing guard for many years. Betty loved children and animals. She volunteered for many years at CCD and as caretaker of the Tropical Fish at Memorial School. She also volunteered her time to the "Good As New Shop" and the "Busy Bees" craft group at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. She loved to cook and many people in Winchendon reaped the benefits of her culinary talents. Calling hours will be private.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, March 8th at 11 A.M. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 52 Spruce Street, Winchendon. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ahimsa Haven Animal Shelter, care of Anne Eddy, 287 Spring Street, Winchendon, MA. 01475 or to City of St. Jude, 2048 West Fairview Avenue, Montgomery, AL. 36108-4198.
