GARDNER - Elmond F. "Lucky" Garfield, Jr., 78, of 25 Rosewood Drive, died Wednesday evening, August 16th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner. He was born in Sudbury, MA. on November 13,1927, the son of Elmond F. and Grace (Bosselman) Garfield and was a resident of Gardner for 18 years, after living for many years in Marlboro. Elmond worked for 33 years at General Motors in Framingham as a foreman and supervisor until his retirement at the age of 53. He was an Army veteran of World War Two, serving as a corporal. He received the Army of Occupation Medal, Japan. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Gardner Municipal Golf Course. Lucky especially enjoyed time with his family and grandchildren. He was a graduate of Sudbury High School. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Cecelia (Gaucher) Garfield; five children, David S. Garfield and his wife, Carol A. Garfield of Winchendon, Richard E. Garfield of Mesa, AZ., Donald W. Garfield and his wife Joyce Garfield of Sturbridge, Helene M. Martioski of Templeton and Lorraine C. Garfield of Maine; two sisters, Dorothy Blakeley of CT. and Ruth Hartwell of CT.; 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. A brother Frank Garfield, and a sister, Grace Forsberg, predeceased him. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday, August 20th in the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
