Elsie A. Betourney

November 19, 1932 — June 21, 2015

WINCHENDON – Elsie A. (Till) Betourney, 82, formerly of Winchendon and Royalston, died peacefully Sunday morning, June 21st in Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol.

She was born in Winchendon on November 19, 1932, daughter of Axel Sigfrid and Sanni (Farmi) Till and attended Murdock High School.  Elsie lived in Royalston for many years and wintered in the Carolinas and Florida.  She returned to Winchendon later in life and lived in Athol for the past two years.

Elsie worked as a registered nurse at the former Winchendon Hospital and also owned and operated the former Elsie’s Corner Curl.  Many years ago, she worked at New Hampshire Ball Bearing in Peterborough, NH.  Active in civic affairs, Elsie was active in several committees, most notably the 4th of July Committee.

An accomplished golfer, Elsie was Woman’s Club Champion several years in both Winchendon and Athol.  A gifted actress, she performed in many local plays, such as “Barefoot in the Park” and “Cat in a Hot Tin Roof.”  A talented athlete, Elsie also played volleyball and bowled in area leagues.  Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and friends.

She leaves her husband of 66 years, Rolland G. Betourney; four children, Paula I. Hare and her husband Joseph of Del Ray Beach, FL, Janice E. Wilder and her husband Michael of Winchendon, Scott R. Betourney and his wife Carol of Winchendon and Steven B. Betourney and his wife Nancy of Royalston; her grandchildren, Shannon Harris, Brenda Lucier, Kimberly O’Dea, Michael R. Wilder, Christopher S. Betourney, Tricia M. Betourrney, Steven B. Betourney Jr, Jacob Betourney, Lauria Kamataris and Amanda Eastman; two brothers, Robert Till of Winchendon and Leonard Till of Southwick; a sister, Hulda Fitzgerald of Rindge, NH and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a son, Eric G. Betourney, who died in 2001 and two sisters, Sally Bateman and Alli McGee.

Private graveside services will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
