FITZWILLIAM, NH – Ernest Marsden Thompson, Jr, of 68 Fullam Hill Road, Fitzwilliam, NH. passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9th, 2015, surrounded by his family.
Born and raised in Winchendon, the son of Ernest M. and Ruth (Hale) Thompson, he was a lifelong resident of Winchendon.
He is survived by his wife, Wendy Whitham Thompson; his three children, Gwendolyn Thompson of Charlton, MA, Bridgette Thompson of Dracut, MA and Garth Thompson of Plymouth, NH; his grandson, Brendon Thompson of Templeton; his siblings and their spouses, Michael and Barbara Thompson of Fitzwilliam, NH, Deborah and Alfred St. Peters of Lowell, MA and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Larry Thompson of Winchendon and Ruth Thompson Connor of Gardner, MA.
Ernest graduated from Murdock High School in 1969 and had fond memories of working at Cathedral Farms in the summers, when he was a teenager. He was a lifelong member of Winchendon Rod and Gun Club, where he enjoyed the comaraderie of spending time amongst his closest friends, in the tranquil outdoor environment to which he felt most at home.
He started LT Auto Body with friend and business partner Ed LaFortune, and later pursued a career as a machinist. He eventually opened Twin City Machining Inc, with his brother, Larry Thompson and friend Rene Boutelle. They sold the business to longtime associate, Fitchburg Welding, and Ernie remained with the company until his recent retirement.
As a lover of the outdoors, Ernie spent much of his time working in the yard, hunting, fishing, and sharing stories of his bold adventure to Alaska. As a devoted Father, Husband and friend, his most cherished times were those spent with family and friends, swapping stories, laughs and enjoying the life he had so proudly built.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 23rd at 1 P.M. at his home at 68 Fullam Hill Road, Fitzwilliam, NH.
Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon is directing arrangements.
