PHILLIPSTON – Eugene C. Mustakangas Jr, 79, of 95 Main Road, died peacefully Tuesday morning, November 11th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, with his family at his side.
He was born in Gardner on August 18, 1935, son of the late Eugene C. and Jennie (Skon) Mustakangas and had lived in Phillipston for most of his life.
Eugene was a self employed carpenter for most of his life and took great pride in his work. He attended Royalston and Athol schools and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. An avid weather watcher, he enjoyed gardening and yard work. An avid sports fan, he followed NASCAR, the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a former member of Royalston Fish and Game Club. He also enjoyed the companionship of his two dogs.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, Nancy (Simula) Mustakangas; a daughter, Christine C. Cormier and her husband Tom of So. Royalston; five grandchildren, Jason T. Mustakangas, Luke A. Mustakangas, Ross G. Cormier, Jessica L. Cormier and Nicholas L. Mustakangas; two step grandchildren, Luke L. Fletcher and Brooke C. Fletcher; two great grandchildren, Caleb B. Mustakangas and Audrina M. Cormier; a daughter-in-law, Kim Mustakangas of Baldwinville; two brothers, Carl Mustakangas of Worcester and Ronald Mustakangas of Phillipston as well as nieces and nephews. A son, Randy Lee Mustakangas of Baldwinville, preceded him in death in 2013.
Military funeral services will be held Friday, November 14th at 11 A.M. in Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Stephanie Flynn will officiate.
Calling hours in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon are Thursday, November 13th from 5 to 7 P.M.
