FITCHBURG – Frank H. Black, 63, of 63 Hazel Street, Fitchburg, died peacefully Tuesday afternoon, February 14th in Edith Nourse Rogers Veterans Administration Hospital, Bedford, with his family at his side.
He was born in Everett on August 7, 1948, the son of Frederick and Frances (Maiorano) Black and grew up in Cambridge, where he lived for most of his life. Frank lived in the Gardner-Winchendon area for ten years and had lived in Fitchburg for the past year.
Frank worked as a furniture mover for Metropolitan Storage in Cambridge for many years. He was a former member of the Color Guard and VFW in Cambridge and was a life member of DAV. Dancing and playing pool were two of his hobbies but he mostly enjoyed spending time with his family.
Frank proudly served his country as a Private in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with 60 Device and the Sharpshooter Rifle Badge.
He leaves his wife of 30 years, Karen J. (Sauer) Black; three sons, Jason (Black) Bourgeois of Tewksbury, Frank H. Black Jr. of Fitchburg and Brian Black of Worcester; two grandchildren, Kylie Black and Frank Black 3rd; two sisters, Diane Chalmers of Arlington and Karen Cullen of Gardner, as well as several cousins, nephews and nieces.
Calling hours will be held Friday, February 17th from 6 to 8 P.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon.
Military funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 22nd at 1 P.M. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon. The Rev. Francis A. Roberge will officiate.
