WINCHENDON – Frederick J. Fleming, 90, of 228 Ash Street, died peacefully Saturday morning, October 29th, at his residence, with his family at his side.
He was born in Athol on August 14, 1921, son of the late Leroy and Hazel V. (Cadwell) Fleming, and graduated from Orange High School. He lived in Winchendon for over 40 years.
Fred worked for 27 years for Massachusetts Electric as a meter reader until his retirement. During World War Two, Fred proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. Fred was a 50 year member of Orange Post 172 American Legion and was a member of St. Denis Church in Ashburnham. An avid golfer, he once shot a hole in one. Fred also enjoyed woodworking.
He leaves his wife of 42 years, Martha L. (Horrigan) Fleming; two daughters, Patricia M. Henderson and her husband Gary of Gardner and Cheryl A. Lizama of Martinez, GA; one brother Phillip Fleming of Orange; 7 grandchildren, Alicia Dorval, Danielle Dorval, Taylor Dorval, Austin Henderson, Amanda Lizama, Jordan Lizama and Hannah Lizama, three great grandchildren, Kayden, Ella and Henry and several nephews and nieces. A brother, David Fleming and a sister, Edith Priest, predeceased him.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 3rd at 10 A.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. The Rev. John Horgan will officiate. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery.
