TEMPLETON – Gary A. Hamel, 57, of 15 Sand Road, Otter River, died peacefully at his residence Tuesday morning, June 16th with his family at his side.
He was born in Gardner on January 26, 1958, son of the late Urgel and Alma A. (Poitras) Hamel and was a resident of the Templeton area for most of his life.
Gary was a graduate of Oakmont Regional High School. Until recently, he worked as a millwright at Lutco Inc in Worcester for 15 years. He previously worked at Rad Lock Co. in Worcester and ESP Co. in Leominster. Gary enjoyed waterskiing, camping, and was a lifelong member of Otter River Sportsmens Club. He was known as a master of all trades, with knowledge of building, electrical work and plumbing. He built his present residence in Otter River. He proudly served his country as a member of the Marine Corps. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, friends and his dog Treva.
He leaves his wife of 17 years, Lucy (Camacho) Hamel; two daughters, Holly A. Hamel and boyfriend Christopher Snow of Otter River and Lindsay M. Hamel and her husband Daniel Burdick of Rensselaer, NY; one brother, Thomas Ware and his wife Patricia of AZ; one sister, Helen Boudreau and her husband Philip of Hudson; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Jane E. Jacobson and Joan Vaillancourt and a brother, Henry Hamel.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 20th at 11 A.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Winchendon.
