WINCHENDON – Gerald W. Abare, 81, of 258 Baldwinville State Road, Winchendon, died peacefully Saturday morning, January 12th in UMASS Memorial Healthcare, University Campus, Worcester.
He was born in Winchendon on December 14, 1931, son of the late Leonard D. and Josephine M. (Diotalevi) Abare and graduated from Murdock High School.
Gerald worked at United Twist and Drill, Superior Friction, United States Post Office in Winchendon and retired from New Hampshire Ball Bearing. He was a pilot, who flew his own plane, an avid fisherman and an amateur photographer.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Marjorie Lee (Higgins) Abare; ten children, Deborah (Abare) Avery and her husband Richard of Winchendon, Gregory Abare and his wife Nancy of Baldwinville, Kenneth Abare of Winchendon, Paula Abare of Ashburnham, Darlene Abare of Winchendon, the late Sally Abare, Christopher Abare and his wife Cindy of Athol, Ian Abare and his wife Crystal of Winchendon, Jennifer Abare of Winchendon and Amy (Abare) King and her husband John of Milford, NH; two siblings, Beverly (Abare) Coobic of Winchendon and Donald Abare and his wife Betty of Clearwater, FL; eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.
Private funeral services will be held in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon.
