TEMPLETON – Gladys (Mitchell) Brehio, 84, of 9E Boynton Road, Templeton, died peacefully Tuesday afternoon, April 19 th , in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, with her family at her side.
She was born in Rockland, Maine on May 24, 1926, the daughter of Carl and Addie (Prescott) Mitchell and had lived in Templeton for many years.
Gladys was a graduate of Union High School in Union, Maine in 1944 and attended Gates Business College in Augusta, Maine. She graduated from Gardner State Hospital School of Nursing in 1950 as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Gladys worked at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Rutland, MA. She was also the office nurse for Dr. John DeLeo in Fitchburg for several years, then Burbank Hospital in Fitchburg. Gladys worked for many years at the Department for Mental Health, retiring in 1988.
Her husband of 38 years, Edward D. Brehio, died on March 25 th . She leaves two daughters, Peggy Oinonen of Sebring, FL and Kathy Fragale and her husband Renato of Hubbardston; two sons, Michael Stewart of Henderson, Nevada and Chris Stewart and his wife Cindy of Templeton; granddaughters, Erikka Schumacker and husband David of Hope, ME, Rebecca Stratford and husband Bruce of Templeton, Jessica Connors and husband Donald of Gardner, Brittany Stewart, Amanda Stewart and Lexie Stewart of Templeton; grandsons, Corey Stewart of Templeton and Shane Stewart of Gardner; stepsons James Brehio and his wife Janet of Templeton, Steve Brehio and his wife Darlene of Templeton, David Brehio of Baldwinville, Edward Brehio Jr and his wife Peggy of Baldwinville; a stepdaughter Joan Moge and her husband Michael of Baldwinville; six step grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; a sister, Helen Lussier of Westminster and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by brothers Robert and Theodore Mitchell, both of Maine.
Gladys was a member of First Church of Templeton. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, reading and going to the casino. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 22nd at 11 AM in the First Church of Templeton, Templeton Common. The Rev. William Ault will officiate.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Baldwinville.
Calling hours in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon will be Thursday, April 21 st from 5 to 7 P.M..
