PALM COAST, FL. - Gloria J. Butkiewicz, 62, of Palm Coast, Florida and formerly of Gardner, died Monday evening, January 18th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, 119 Belmont Street, Worcester. She was born in Boston on April 3,1947, the daughter of Lucille A. (Lovett) Butkiewicz of Gardner and the late Felix Butkiewicz. Gloria worked for many years as a registered nurse in Massachusetts and Florida. She graduated from Gardner High School in 1965 and Heywood Hospital School of Nursing in 1968. She also received her Associates Degree in Human Services from Mt. Wachusett Community College and had enrolled in other nursing studies at the University of New Hampshire. She began her nursing career at Boston Hospital for Women, Lying Inn Division and Washingtonian Hospital in Jamaica Plains. She later worked at Heywood Hospital, Eastwood Pines Nursing Home, the former Parker Hill Nursing Home, Open Arms Nursing Home in Winchendon and the Coastal Community Hospital in Bunnell, Florida until her retirement. At one time, Gloria bred Himalayan and Persian cats. She also enjoyed making crafts. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her nieces and nephews. Gloria was a member of Nurses' Associations, both in Massachusetts and Florida. In addition to her mother, she leaves a brother, Paul D. Butkiewicz and his companion Carol of St. Augustine, Fl, one sister, Beverly R. Harris of Gardner and several nephews and nieces. A brother, Thomas E. Butkiewicz, predeceased her in 2008.
